Movie Review | Lovely By Surprise -On DVD JULY 7TH

A couple of months ago I was asked by @kellyjkit in a Twitter direct message if we would be interested in reviewing the independent film Lovely By Surprise (@LovelyBySrprise)on our blog. Of course I said yes, so Kelly sent us the screener. Thank you Kelly! If you are interested in watching this movie first hand it will be released on DVD in just a few days on July 7th.

After reading through some of my notes I thought maybe you reading them would be more beneficial than me combining them all together for this review. Maybe this way will be reminiscent of the scene in which all papers are lying on the floor with many possibilities to go forward. So here’s what I wrote down on my iPhone notes while watching:

•I enjoyed the main writers character, and her passion for the book in reality. It think it expresses how a lot of artists feel about connecting with their work.

•I think this film would have a much deeper impact if the audience was an author(s)

•It made me chuckle every now and then

•I felt real emotion when the father attempted to get his daughter to speak to him. (These portions of the film are where the actors really showed their ability to act)

•At times I found it hard to keep my attention

•This film tells a story through images and colors rather than camera movements. I personal like a greater mix of both which is most likely why it was hard to keep my attention

•Many one sided conversations (characters not getting replies when speaking but still continue to talk)

•My favorite part of this movie: The idea it represents in being made as a film; not a major budget movie, and not a ultra low budget movie either. It’s in the middle with real independent spirit.

•I also really liked the ending. It was not only written well but shot well too. It conveyed the real feeling that was intended for the audience.

Overall I would have trouble giving this film a very high rating based on the story, but I would rate it high for the ability to make this type of film, a true independent that is. I hope that more amatuer filmmaker see this film as an inspiration to what is possible, but take the time to expand on creativness. If you’re a writer or want to see a film about how art can effect people then I recommend renting this DVD when it’s released. Check out the trailer at www.lovelybysurprise.com
